World Series Final Game Captures 51 Million Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The exciting 11-inning matchup where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined 51M viewers in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB announced this is the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable game averaged over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a 16% increase compared to the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game recorded 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English program in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – recorded 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game series drew over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the complete American average reached 16.1 million. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s best playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
